About us

  • Our retreat center

We opened our doors in 2005 with the goal of providing a high standard of accommodation and services to our guest. Boasting one of the best views of any hotel on the lake Lomas de Tzununá is a perfect base to explore all that Lake Atitlan has to offer. We hope to make your stay truly unforgettable. In 2020 we started transforming Lomas de Tzununá into a Retreat Center. The difficulties of 2020 and 2021 delayed the transformation. In 2022 we are doing the transition and hopefully mid 2022 and from 2023 on we will be only a Retreat Center hosting retreats and wellness. Thierry retired from Lomas de Tzununá in 2022. María stayed with our son Lucas. We are identifying and training new manager and team. We will be staying and runing the new Lomas de Tzununá, Retreat Center.

  • Sustainability

Lake Atitlan is a fragile eco-system that requires everyone who lives here to take care of the environment. We are reducing our environmental impact through using renewable energy sources and producing food we can from the resources we have around us. We have taken very seriously the Environmental Study (Estudio de Impacto Ambiental) that we did before we built.

Just a few of our sustainability initiatives include:
-the installation of solar panels to power our water pumps from the lake,
    -onsite chicken coup,
-keeping a healthy herb garden that supplies La Cocina de Andrés,
    -implementation of permaculture practices,
we have never sold plastic bottles nor straws,
we have solar heated hot water,
-we try to recycle all the garbage,
-we reforested and keep planing trees every year in May,
-we have grey and black waters treatment systems to protect the lake from our waste products and use eco-friendly soaps,
-water from sinks and showers goes back to the land
Nature is preserved at Lomas de Tzununá as best we can

  • Community Development

Our goal has always been asking ourselves how can we give back to the Community of people born in Tzununá? With help of guests and groups along the years we managed to built a Community Center in Tzununá. We participated in the creation of a legal NGO and work towards being on service to provide Education, Art and Culture in Tzununá. When hosting retreats many do a karma day connecting with children, young people and woman of Tzununá. Do you want to know more? Please visit the website (link to CC website) or contact us.
